Reviews of Melanie's performance in Blood Brothers have been published in the last couple of days, and they make for impressive reading!
Charles Spencer of The Daily Telegraph called Melanie's debut "absolutely sensational" and gave the show a resounding five stars adding: "If you haven't been to Blood Brothers before, make it a priority. If you have, you will need no further encouragement from me to see it again with Melanie C now in such glorious form."
Fiona Mountford of the London Evening Standard gave an equally rave review saying: "If we already knew she could sing, we might not have guessed she'd prove this adept in acting." Giving another five star rating, she calls Melanie the "galvanising factor" in this wonderful show with her "terrific stage debut".
Meanwhile Mark Shenton of The Stage, said that Melanie's casting in the show was a major coup, bringing "great humanity and humility to the role".
In The Mail on Sunday Georgina Brown also rated Blood Brothers five out of five stars. She described Melanie as brilliant, saying she "fills Russell's forlorn melodies and hopeful ballads with heart and soul".
Tim Walker in the Sunday Telegraph also gave the show a five star rating. He said Melanie "proves a revelation: the girl can act as well as sing".
Melanie's West End debut also attracted attention in the international media. Matt Wolf of The New York Times wrote: "Melanie C acts and sings the role as if it were her own personal Medea, a theater neophyte's rabid conviction shared with an audience that may have come bearing skepticism and stayed to cheer. Emotions this raw in any cultural context are very rare."
Melanie will be appearing in Blood Brothers until the end of April. Tickets are on offer right now through London Theatre Direct.
